about

Jen Denitto : Vocals, Guitar, Bass, E-Drums

Mixed by Jen Denitto

"I first heard of Umbrella Heaven in 1995 when riot-grrl band Linus recorded demos for our second album with Gayl Gordon. She was unable to finish the mixing so we went to her friends' studio, Café Eric. Robin (Morgan) and Simon (Aldous) let us know they were playing a show at the Bull And Gate, and so I went along. I bought their album "Do You Hate Me", and subsequently became obsessed with it. We became friends and after hanging out for a few years, a slot was available for a keyboard player. Not being a keyboard player, but not being in any bands at the time, I joined, and spent a fun few years playing keyboards so quietly no one could hear me.
One day in rehearsal we swapped instruments and I had a go at the drums. Umbrella Heaven's guitarist, Tim Foxley, gave me my first drum lesson ("No Fun" by The Stooges).
I love "Right Side Of The River" because I used to live north of the Thames and wonder why anyone would want to live in South London. But then I moved to Brixton in 2000 and realised that there is a lot more space and stuff to do down here. I have joined 'some suburban clique' and am having a very nice time too." - Jen

Bands I have played in since Umbrella Heaven:
Long Good Luck, The Shallows, The New Royal Family, The Low Edges, The Famous Cocks (Adam Ant tribute band), The Fallen Women (The Fall all women karaoke tribute band), Lemonade Sin, Keith Top of the Pops, Argonaut, Faster, Picture Centre, Scarlet's Well, The Monochrome Set, The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra, Small Crew, Micky C & The Sad Sad People, The Deptford Beach Babes, The Debutante.

I also do solo shows either as The Jen Denitto Band, playing my songs (and Linus songs), usually it's an annual event.

Right Side Of The River

Home is anywhere that I decide it's going to be
Right now a small provincial town
Could be the perfect place for me
Somewhere ...

Ambition’s just a symptom of somebody’s insecurity
I know I can stay content just give me the right territory
Somewhere that I can learn the names
To all the faces in a week
Not drown in the banality
Of some aimless suburban clique

I can’t recall
How I lost it all
I just love the sound
As it all rebounds

Home is anywhere that I decide it’s going to be
Right now a small provincial town
Could be the perfect place for me
Welcome them and nurture them
Till the end I’ll see it through
But now it’s you who’s calling me
Cos you know I‘m part of you

I can’t recall
How I lost it all
I just love the sound
As it all rebounds

Stay on the right side of the river
Stay on the right side of the town
Stay on the right side of the river
Stay on the right side of me

Tribute To The Greatest Band ... You've Never Heard Of Memphis, Tennessee

To bring awareness to the bands that had a regional following at best. To reinvent the songs into something fresh, a cover needs not to be a carbon copy
